Mamatoto Bodywork

Welcome to Mamatoto Bodywork

Mamatoto” is a Swahili term meaning “Motherbaby”

Reflecting the reality that what impacts Mother impacts Baby.

Why Mamatoto?

Recognizing the disproportionate prevalence of adverse pregnancy outcomes experienced by black childbearing women, Mamatoto Bodywork exists to provide care for black families before and during pregnancy and after birth.

Why Touch Based Bodywork?

Finding a calm, spacious time for yourself and settling your nervous system, is not only good for you (as a mother to be), it can also be very beneficial for the developing nervous system of your baby in the womb.

Touch based bodywork is also a nurturing way to support your body in dissolving deep physical & emotional tensions and the holding patterns that accompany them.

Booking

Treatment sessions are available by appointment only. For further information or to arrange an appointment please call to book a session.

What to Expect

Treatment sessions take place laying on your back or side and the quality of touch is mostly light and still. You will remain clothed so comfortable clothes work best such as elastic waist bottoms and a cotton t-shirt or sports bra.

As the nervous system relaxes, in response to being held by non-invasive touch and a calm still presence, the natural healing process begins to unfold.

As your body sets the priorities for change you may find that the reason you came for sessions is not what changes first.

For this reason you may want to consider having a series of sessions over a period of time to gain the full benefits of bodywork.

After a session people frequently report feeling deeply rested and an increased or newfound experience of being more present and grounded in the body.
